How to achieve work-life balance?
March 04, 2023I happen to wonder about this title all the time just like you all. I read a few articles on time management to find a solution to this query. Different articles had different arguments, but finally, I was able to relate to something written in a book called ‘Eat That Frog.’ Namaste and welcome to my blog and podcast channel ‘A piece of my learning’, and today I want to share my learning with you all.
The book mentioned that the main reason to develop time management skills is so that we can complete everything important in our work and free up more and more time to do the things in our personal life that give us the greatest happiness and satisfaction. A large majority of our happiness in life comes from happy relationships with the people closest to us.
The purpose of learning time management can be summarized in a single sentence as
The purpose of time management and getting more done in less time is to enable you to spend more “face time” with the people you care about, doing the things that give you the greatest amount of joy in life.
So instead of looking at it in terms of hours you spend in your work and on your personal life, let us simplify it in terms of quality time and quantity time.
I have heard a lot of people saying that they want to spend quality time with their family and loved ones. But what the book states and something I relate to is -
It is the quality of time at work that counts and the quantity of time at home that matters.
The book advises us to resolve to work all the time we are working. Why? Because the time we waste at work often has to be taken away from our personal or family time. If we end up wasting time at work, then we have to either stay late or take work home and work in the evenings. By not working effectively and efficiently during the workday, we create unnecessary stress and deprive the closest people of the very best person we can be.
The reward for doing this will be more face-to-face time with the people we love. If I am spending a stress-free quantity of time with my family, I can be the happiest. At the same time, by spending quality time at work, I can perform at my very best at work and enjoy the highest level of rewards possible in my career.
Isn’t this the meaning of work-life balance? Enjoying the best possible rewards at work and being the happiest. I think so. In my opinion, this does justice to the term work-life balance. Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

Grt read as usual. The face time concept is more appropriate than the quality time at home . Good job and best wishes once again
