Amazing life secrets - Wheel 2: Relationships
April 13, 2024
Namaste and welcome to 'A piece of my learning.' In the last blog, I shared the summary of the first of four parts of the book which was about personal life. I'll summarize what the author says about relationships, which is the second part. Let's dive in.
Speaking Sensitively
Being sensitive means considering how our words and actions might affect others. For instance, if someone had a bad experience somewhere, it can change their whole view of the place. So, we should treat everything, even objects, with respect, or we might become insensitive overall. This can spill over into how we treat people, damaging our relationships.
A Virtuous Vision
Seeing the best in people can be tough, especially when we're always around them. We can view people in five ways: focusing only on the bad, seeing both good and bad but fixating on the bad, being neutral, focusing on the good while acknowledging the bad, or magnifying the good. The best stage is where we focus on the good. Achieving this takes time and effort, but it helps our relationships flourish.

Correcting Cautiously
Speaking out of anger can harm our relationships. Instead, we should build trust and praise before giving corrective feedback. Before correcting someone, we should consider if we're the right person; if our motives are right; if we know how to give feedback properly; and if it's the right time. It takes practice to give feedback sensitively, as many are used to giving it insensitively.

This is how you should NOT correct someone
Forgiveness
Forgiveness can be hard to grasp. We should try to understand why someone acted harshly towards us, showing empathy. We should separate the action from the person, focusing on resolving the issue. Forgiving based on higher principles, like love or duty, takes time and support. While we can forgive personally, society still needs justice to maintain order.
Association Matters
The people we associate with can influence us greatly. Our interactions can either lift us or bring us down. Everyday interactions are neutral, while closer relationships involve sharing things, thoughts, and values, which can significantly impact our lifestyles.
This summary barely scratches the surface. This book is full of wisdom put forth in the best possible way. If you like my blog, please share it with your friends and comment below so we can have a conversation about it. Thank you for being a kind reader and supporter.
