Attitude of Gratitude

June 14, 2022

Namaste! Welcome to my blog. Today comes another one of those most important lessons of my life.

Sometimes back, I read about this unique social experiment a professor made up for his students. A surprise test! You know how all students love a surprise test right? I am just kidding! The professor distributed the question sheet to all the students. But to the students astonishment, they were provided with a blank sheet of paper with a small black dot on it.

The professor said loudly, "You have to describe what you see and you will have 10 mins for it."

The students were all confused with this unprecedented test. As the clock kept ticking, they started describing the position, size and anything and everything related to that black dot. After the allocated time, the answer sheets were collected and professor had a chance took a look at all the answers. Then the professor said something that changed the lives of all his students.

"All of you tried to write about the black dot you saw but none of you wrote anything about the white part on the sheet of paper. Our lives are similar this piece of paper. We have lot of things in abundance but we tend to focus on the small black dots in our lives like financial issues or health issues. And we forget to appreciate or feel gratitude for this abundance of white portion."

The universe will never grant us anything unless we are grateful for the things we already possess. There are exactly two ways a person can live a life. A person can either crib and complain about the things which he doesn't posses or be grateful for things he does.

I have realized that I feel grateful for my clothes and house when I see the beggars sleeping bare on the street. I feel grateful for my body when I see physically disabled people try to make their ends meet. I feel grateful for my health when I see people troubled with illness. Each and every incident makes me feel grateful for all that I posses.

Whatever I am today, I have not reached here just because of me. There are lots of shoulders who support me. My parents, my friends and even the people who hate me or reject my ideas. As a part of my daily routine, I write down few things I am grateful for based on previous day's experience. Attitude of gratitude is indeed one of those superpowers that can make you stand out. Do you agree with me?
